Addiction is a chronic illness, and usually is symptomatic of an underlying biochemical imbalance (too little Serotonin, too much Dopamine, etc.) which becomes aggravated by life’s inevitable stress. Treating addiction requires building lasting and caring relationships around a team of professionals dedicated to understanding this complicated illness. What differentiates Dr. Kipper from many doctors is that he has a special license to treat addiction patients with Buprenorphine, a safe way to detoxify from Opiate dependency; one that enables patients to maintain their daily life activites and preserve their privacy during treament.
About Buprenorphine (Suboxone/subutex)
Approved three years ago by the FDA, Buprenorphine is a safe and comfortable way to detoxify from Opiate dependency. Buprenorphine is a synthetic Opiate that does not create euphoria (the "high") or craving for Opiates and there is a very low incidence of dependency to this medication. There are two forms of this medication. Subutex is the pure form of Buprenorphine and is used for pain control. Suboxone is Buprenorphine combined with Naloxone, a medication that inhibits Opiate cravings (and other drugs, such as alcohol). Suboxone therefore allows you to detoxify from the Opiate and remain free of the pain of withdrawal and the cravings that have prolonged the addictive behavior. These medications are prescribed from the office and are safe for outpatient use, while maintaining your daily activities. The course of detoxification can vary from several days to several weeks, and depend upon the individual patient.
Outpatient Opiate Detoxification
Detoxification for Opiates is now safe and comfortable with the approval of Suboxone by the FDA. Successful outpatient treatment requires a team of specialists to insure success, and Dr. Kipper has been associated with addiction counselors and therapists for over twenty years who participate with me in the treatment of addiction. Moreover, each patient's detoxification needs to be individualized, because of the myriad of factors that create and perpetuate the addictive behavior. Without this team approach and the personalization of each program, relapse is almost a guarantee. If outpatient therapy is what seems right for you, call Dr. Kipper directly (no secretary or assistants, a direct line at (310-275-5206). Dr. Kipper will personally discuss your situation with you, at no charge or obligation, to determine the best course of treatment for you.
